Spelunking

Underneath Berkeley somewhere… beautiful graffiti and an overwhelming sense of darkness.

This is a very long storm drain that starts in the mouth of a small Berkeley stream.

I have spent at least 6/7 hours the past week exploring these drains. I sincerely feel like a cave explorer, deep in the depths of the hot and wet earth. At points I feel like I’m in the Parisian catacombs, with the amazing artwork and strange remnants of trash and furniture. We often forget the deep and slow ways of time deep underground. Like comparing a fly to a turtle, the frenzied movements incomprehensible when placed next to the placid and slow turtle. Thus, I am like a frenzied fly, moving about so slowly yet fast compared to the deepslow time of inside the earth.
